Wine is wings & affluence to the melancholy
Wine on the cheek of a lady is black and a mole
In Ramazan we have not drunk wine & it has gone
At length with the month of Shawwal the night of feasting is

Nic 159

P 358

Wine feather and wing to the sorrowful soul is;
To the cheek of the intellect wine as a mole is:
None this Ramazan-tide have we drunk; but 't is over;
Come the festival-night and the end of our dole is.

Th 229

To heavy hearts is wine both plume and wing.
Wine, beauty's mark to wisdom's cheek doth bring;
All Ramazan no drop we've drunk; 'tis past
The Festal night comes, Shawwal ushering.

Wh 178

Ah! wine lends wings to many a weary wight,
And beauty spots to ladies' faces bright;
All Ramadan I have not drunk a drop,
Thrice welcome, then, O Bairam's blessed night!
