Calcutta nr. 175
I desire wine in a one-men goblet
I will make myself rich with two 1/2 mens of wine
First I will three times divorce learning & faith
And then I will make the daughter of the vine my wife.
This night I will fetch a cup that measures one man
I will make myself rich with two half mans of wine.
First, by thrice repeating the formula of divorce, I
will repudiate reason and faith; then I will marry daughter of the grape.
You know, my Friends, with what a brave Carouse
I made a Second Marriage in my house;
Divorced old barren Reason from my Bed,
And took the Daughter of the Vine to Spouse.
I will fill a one-maund goblet with wine,
I will enrich myself with two half-maunds of wine:
First I will thrice pronounce the divorce from learning and faith,
And then I will take the daughter of the vine to spouse.
Moi, je verserai du vin dans une coupe qui puisse en contenir un mèn. Je me contenterai d'en boire deux coupes; mais d'abord je divorcerai trois fois avec la religion et la raison, et ensuite j'épouserai la fille de la vigne.
A pottle-cup tonight brimful of wine I'll make;
Shift with the same twice filled, without repine, I'll make:
Reason and religion thrice I will divorce and then
The daughter of the grape my concubine I'll make.
A one-maund cup of wine I 'll brimming make.
Yea, of two cups of rich wine I 'll partake;
First, Faith and Reason I will thrice divorce.
Then the Grape's daughter for my bride I 'll take.
