Nr. 16

Calcutta nr. 16

I shall drink so much wine that this aroma of wine
Shall rise from the earth when I am beneath it
So that when a drinker shall pass above my body
He shall become drunk & degraded from the aroma of my potations.

FitzGerald 1879 - 92
That ev'n my buried Ashes such a snare
Of. Vintage shall fling up into the Air
As not a True-believer passing by
But shall be overtaken unaware.

Heron-Allen 1899 - 92
I will drink so much wine that this aroma of wine
Shall rise from the earth when I am beneath it;
So that when a drinker shall pass above my body,
He shall become drunk and degraded from the aroma of my potations.

Nicolas 1867 - 14

Payne 1898 - 27
Wine on such sort l'll tipple, the fumes thereof shall rise
Out of my dust, when buried beneath the dust it lies;
Yea, if some half-primed toper should stumble o'er my clay,
Dead-drunk my ashes' odour shall make him in a trice.

Thompson 1906 - 51
I 'll drink so much wine that its sweet bouquet,
Shall when 'neath earth I go, rise from the clay
That when some reveller passes o'er my dust.
Drunk from my wine fumes he shall reel away.

whinfield 1883 - 17
So many cups of wine will I consume,
Its bouquet shall exhale from out my tomb,
And every one that passes by shall halt,
And reel and stagger with that mighty fume.
