In my hand may there be always the juice of the grape
In my mind may there be desiree for houri-like idols
They say to me “may God give thee repentance
He himself will not give it, I will none of it, let it be far off

Ouseley MS 140 - 64
In my mind may there be desire for idols houri-like,
in my hand may there be, all the year round, the juice of the grape;
they say to me, "May God give thee repentance!"
He himself will not give it; I will none of it; let it be far off!

Christensen 1927 - 1
In my head may there be desire for the houri-like
idols. In my hand may there be the grape-juice through out the year.
People say to me: "May God give thee repentance!"
He will not give it. I will not practise it. May it be far from me!

Payne 1898 - 341
Love of Houri-like maids in my head ever be!
In my hand may the grape-juice rose-red ever be!
God give thee repentance!" quoth they. Though He gave,
I'd not do. May it far from my stead ever be!

Thompson 1906 - 222
The juice of grapes may my hand ever bear
And my heart ever long for Houri fair:
They say “God give thee penitence!" He 'll not.
Far be 't from me! Repentance I forswear!

Whinfield 1883 - 172
Forever may my hands on wine be stayed,
And my heart pant for some fair Houri maid!
They say, "May Allah aid thee to repent!"
Repent I could not, e'en with Allah's aid!
