Bodleian quatrain nr. 102

Anet 1957 - 22

Cadell 1899 - 114
Khayam! Be happy with the wine of love!
Rejoice each hour with rosy cheek you spend!
As nothingness of all will be the end,
What will be nothing, while it is, approve.

Christensen 1927 - 3
Khayyam, if thou art drunk with wine, be merry! If
thou art sitting with a tulip-cheek, be merry!
Do not be sorry that thou shalt be naught to-morrow:
imagine thou art not, whilst thou art, and be merry'

FitzGerald 1859 - 47
And if the Wine you drink, the Lip you press,
End in the Nothing all Things end in--Yes---
Then fancy while Thou art, Thou art but what
Thou shalt be---Nothing--thou shalt not be less.

Grolleau 1902 - 102
Sois heureux, Kháyyám, si tu es ivre,
Si tu reposes près d'une aimée aux joues de tulipe, sois heureux;

Chiam! bist trunken du, bist du verliebt, sey froh!

Heron-Allen 1898 - 102
Khayyam, if thou art drunk with wine, be happy,
if thou reposest with one tulip-cheeked, be happy,
since the end of all things is that thou wilt be naught;
whilst thou art, imagine that thou art not,—be happy !

Sois, sois heureux.

McCarthy 1889 - 85
O KHAYYAM, WHEN YOU ARE DRUNK
BE MERRY; WHEN YOU ARE WITH
YOUR MISTRESS, BE GLAD; SINCE THE
END OF THIS WORLD IS NOTHINGNESS,
THINK THAT YOU ARE NOT, AND WHILE
YOU ARE, BE JOCUND.

Nicolas 1867 - 242

Payne 1898 - 493
Kheyyam, if drunken with wine thou art, be blithe:
With a tulip-cheeked fair if recline thou art, be blithe:
Since the issue of all things is death, imagine, whilst yet
Thou livest, that dead, by this sign, thou art; be blithe.

Roe 1906 - 29
And when thou hast some ruby wine, rejoice;
Or canst in beauty's arms recline, rejoice;
Since all that is, must surely end in naught,
Think thou art naught while life is thine, rejoice.

Rosen 1928 - 186
Khayyám, if you are intoxicated with wine, be glad,
If you are sitting with one beautiful like the moon, be happy.
As the end of all things is non-existence,
Assurne that you are not and be happy that you still exist.

Talbot 1908 - 102
Khayyám, though drunk, lift up thy cheerful voice,
Be happy with the darling of thy choice;
If in the end of things thou must be naught,
Imagine thou art nothing now. Rejoice!

Thompson 1906 - 328
Khayyam, rejoice if overcome with wine
Thou with a tulip-cheeked one dost recline;
Since all things end in naught, rejoice and think
How 'twould be wert thou dead, whilst life is thine.

Tirtha 1941 - VIII.138
Khayyam! adore thy wine, remain sedate,
Or sit with faces fine, remain sedate;
As in the end the world will shrink to nought,
So nought is being Thine remain sedate.

Whinfield 1883 - 282
Khayyam! rejoice that wine you still can pour,
And still the charms of tulip cheeks adore;
You'll soon not be, rejoice then that you are,
Think how 'twould be in case you were no more!
