Bodleian quatrain nr. 39

Cadell 1899 - 49
Wine's melted ruby, the jug the mine;
The cup the body, its soul the wine;
And the crystal cup where the wine shines through,
A tear where the heart's blood is hid from view.

Grolleau 1902 - 39
Le vin est un rubis liquide, et la coupe en est la mine,
La coupe est le corps dont le vin est l'âme.
La coupe de cristal où rit le vin
Est une larme dans laquelle est caché le sang du coeur.

Heron-Allen 1898 - 39
Wine is a melted ruby and the cup is the mine thereof;
the cup is a body and its wine is the soul thereof;
that crystal cup that is bubbling over with wine
is a tear in which the heart's blood is hidden.

Payne 1898 - 57
Rubies in flow, O wine, thou art; the flask the mine is;
The bowl thy body is; ay, and the soul its wine is:
That cup, which all a-laugh with water of the vine is,
A tear of crystal is, wherein heart's blood ashine is.

Von der Porten 1927 - 39
Der Krug ist Schacht, der Wein geschmolzener Rubin,
Der Krug ist Körper, und der Wein ist Geist darin;
Kristall, aus dem der rote Wein dir lächelnd fließt,
Die Träne, ach, mit der mein Herzblut ebbt dahin.

Roe 1906 - 100
The wine 's a ruby and the cup a mine;
The cup is body, and the soul is wine;
But ah, the crystal cup contains a tear, -
A bleeding heart is hidden in the vine.

Rosen 1928 - 65
Wine is a pure ruby and the flask is the mine;
The goblet is the body and the wine its soul.
Yonder crystal flask that laughs with the wine
Is a tear in which a heart's blood is hidden.

Talbot 1908 - 39
Wine is a melted ruby, and the cup
The mine from which we mortals dig it up;
The cup the body, and the wine the soul:
How many tears lie hidden where we sup?

Thompson 1906 - 615
Wine is a liquid ruby, flask the mine,
The cup the body and the soul is wine;
That crystal goblet laughing with its juice,
And yet like tears that heart's blood doth enshrine.

Tirtha 1941 - IX.161
Thy word Is pearl, born in Thy ruby mine,
A cup's Thy eye where love and life combine;
That crystal cup which smiles and overflows?
Contains a tear, a drop from Heart Divine.

Whinfield 1883 - 105
Wine is a melting ruby, cup its mine;
Cup is the body, and the soul is wine;
These crystal goblets smile with ruddy wine
Like tears, that blood of wounded hearts enshrine.
