Bodleian quatrain nr. 91

Bodenstedt 1881 - II.12
Nun bring mir Wein!

Cadell 1899 - 91
Circumcise not, all legal rites forgo;
Withhold from none the morsel that is thine.
Slander not - seek not man to harm - then know
I pledge thee heaven to come -and now bring wine.

Christensen 1927 - 16
Do not follow the Sunna and do not care for the
commands of faith, but withhold not from anyone that
morsel which thou hast in possession.
Speak not slander, nor afflict the heart of anyone, then
I warrant thee yonder world. Bring wine!

Grolleau 1902 - 91
Ne suis pas la Sunnat, laisse ses préceptes;
Ne refuse à personne le morceau que tu possèdes;

Heron-Allen 1898 - 91
Follow not the Traditions, and leave alone the Commands,
withhold not from anyone the morsel that thou possessest:
neither slander, nor afflict the heart of anyone,
I guarantee you the world beyond—bring wine!

Et donne le morceau que tu tiens en la main;

McCarthy 1889 - 323
THE COMMANDMENTS OF RELIGION
ONLY INSIST ON THE FULFILLING
OF THY OBLIGATION TO THE DEITY.
REFUSE NOT THY MORSEL OF BREAD
TO ANOTHER, REFRAIN THY TONGUE
FROM SLANDER, AND SEEK NOT TO
RENDER EVIL TO THY NEIGHBOUR.
IF THOU DOEST THIS, I MYSELF PRO-
MISE THEE THE FUTURE LIFE. - BRING
HITHER THE WINE!

Nicolas 1867 - 200

Payne 1898 - 433
The canon heed not nor the rules of observance Divine;
Beset not thy fellows with slander or evil design
And grudge not to any the morsel to give that is thine:
On these terms I warrant thee heaven; and meanwhile bring wine.

Wein herbei!

Roe 1906 - 65
Go toss commandment to the passing wind,
Nor with tradition keep thy soul confined;
Pay hate with love, enjoy the ruddy wine,
Nor fear the grave, nor what there is behind.

Rosen 1928 - 163
Do not display piety and give God his due.
Do not withhold from anyone the morsel you may possess.
Do not slander or harm God's creatures,
As to yonder world - I guarantee - Bring wine!

Talbot 1908 - 91
Scout the Traditions: bid the Law begone:
The morsel that thou hast withhold from none:
By word nor deed afflict a single heart:
I'll guarantee thee future worlds. Drink on!

Thompson 1906 - 287
Heed not Traditions nor the Law Divine,
Withhold from none the morsel that is thine,
None slander, nor afflict thou any heart,
I warrant thee the world beyond,—bring wine!

Tirtha 1941 - VII.121
Avoid the sloth, by duties thou peruse,
I wield that world, so love alone I choose;
Don’t slander, and to injure lay no ruse;
Bestow on poor thy morsel, don’t refuse.

Whinfield 1883 - 244
Heed not the Sunna, nor the law divine;
If to the poor his portion you assign,
And never injure one, nor yet abuse,
I guarantee you heaven, and now some wine!
