Kachani 1968 - VII

Kachani, 1968. Illustrated page

LOS ROBAYYATS DEL SABIO ABOL-FATH GHIAC-EL-DIN EBRAHIM OMAR JAYYAM DE NISABUR Y LOS ADHERENTES A SU ESCUELA. 110 Robaíes Originales, Cuidadosamente Escogidos De Maniscritos Antíguos. Tehran, Kachani, 1968.

This edition mainly contains selections from Spanish translations, with quatrains in English and French added. The outline is similar to the earlier editions by Tahrir-Iran, with the same illustrations. The quatrain section starts with a page (page number 148) showing four or five quatrains in Spanish, and on the opposite page a number of quatrains in Persian. Next comes a page with quatrains in Persian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic, with an illustration on the opposite page. This pattern is repeated in the following pages. There are 110 quatrains in this edition, with the translators’ names underneath the quatrains in the mixed section pages.

The English quatrains are partly taken from FitzGerald’s second edition (1868) and total 53 quatrains. The remaining 57 quatrains are taken from Rosen’s English edition published in 1928. The quatrains number 60 and 68 are wrongly attributed to FitzGerald, as in the Tahrir-Iran edition of 1964.

Number of quatrains:
Rosen (1928) - 57
FitzGerald (1868) - 53
